2012 Unibody 15" Keyboard Backlight Uneven

I got an old 15” 2012 Unibody MacBook Pro on craigslist. It’s having a weird issue with the keyboard backlight. I uploaded photos to make the problem more clear.

The backlight seems to light up across the whole board, but it only shines through the F7, 7, Y, H, B, and N keys.

Can I fix this by taking it apart and realigning the backlight with the keys, or is the problem a mismatched original/3rd party backlight/keyboard?

The unevenness is either burn’t out LED’s or the backlight assembly is damaged. There is no shifting issue, its possible someone replaced either the keyboard or backlight assembly with a bad or incorrect unit.

Here’s the needed parts:

Thank you! Unfortunately the backlight you linked is in the UK. I found this backlight/keyboard set on Amazon. Reviews are mixed. I’m guessing I can try it, and if it doesn’t work, put the original set back in.

The original keyboard is probably a higher quality, so maybe just replace the backlight?

Hope it's ok to ask you another question, you seem to know your stuff! ...So I thought if I'm going to got to all this trouble I might as well make the final result unique. So, I'm going to add some colored cellophane to change the backlight color.

Then I thought, maybe I can use still use the old backlight some how...is there a way I can Frankenstein the old and new backlights together? Make the final result a little brighter? (I know it wouldn't be even, since the old backlight isn't.)
