I had the same problem with a hp 3600, and the motor had nothing to do because I heard it running, I just cleaned the rollers that are inside of the paper feeder, I used cotton tips with alcohol.

not enough info about symptoms, but I would check for paper jam. Otherwise, add more info.

when a paper feed is attempted, the first thing that happens is a motor starts running. If you don’t hear that, then you have a motor or a control problem. If a motor is running and no paper is feeding then you have a mechanical issue, bad gears or rollers.

There is no paper jam, no foreign objects paper is just not feeding, have seen reports of gear splitting on feed rod but cannot find it.
