Light doesn't stay on when clock reaches actual alarm time

My clock has an issue where the light comes on during the build-up to the alarm, but turns off once the clock hits the actual alarm time (but demo mode works perfectly). It usually would keep the light on for about 90 minutes after the alarm time unless turned off, but it stays off during this time as well. What’s strange is that the clock display is brighter, like the clock knows the alarm is happening, but the actual wake-up light is not on. Sometimes, unplugging the clock for a few minutes and plugging back in can fix this for a few days, but other times that doesn’t work. It’s very frustrating and has made the alarm completely unreliable.

Also, occasionally I get the random clicking sound like it thinks the buttons are being pressed when they’re not, as mentioned in a question by another user. I’m not sure if these are related or not.

As stated, I’ve tried unplugging and plugging back in, I’ve also tried unplugging and holding down the light on/off button for 15 seconds as suggested in another comment. But regardless, the issue eventually comes up again. Any help is appreciated!

No, I ended up calling Phillips to ask them about it and they gave me a 20% off coupon code to use towards the purchase of a replacement, so I got a new one. I’d bought mine like 5 years ago so it wasn’t warranteed anymore, so this seemed like the best case scenario

Similar problem. After alarm time is reached, lights goes off, display goes to maximum brightness. Disconnecting or performing the reset didn't help. The problem turned out to be in a faulty speaker (its one thing that is switched on when alarm time is reached). Without disassembling the clock fully, its possible to disconnect the speaker (after taking the bottom off). Then one can continue without the speaker or going further and replacing it.

Wouldn't disconnecting the speaker just make this a light rather than alarm clock? I think for this to be effective as an alarm you have to have the sound.

For mine, when it starts acting up I unplug it before I go to work. By the time I plug it in that night, it's reset and is good maybe another month before it acts up again. Seems to work for me. Maybe you need to leave it unplugged a few days over the weekend. Not a perfect solution but I'd rather not take it apart and maybe make it worse.

Unplug for a half hour and plug back in.

Here the same, also this problem! Taking the current off did not help

I have the same problem. Unplugged it for a half hour and plugged it back in and that fixed my glitch for 6 days, now it’s back. The light obviously still works for me and you since the lamp turns on pre-alarm.

This worked for me at first, but the problem would start again after a while and I'd never know when the alarm would stop working again, and it started happening more and more often such that I couldn't rely on it as an alarm clock at all. I hope it fixes yours though!

My fix lasted 6 days and glitch returned.

I'm in the same boat now, I bought mine second hand about 5 months ago. It "soft locks" and none of the buttons are functional until it's unplugged, though they do make a sound like they're being pressed. Has anyone had any luck with a repair?

My issue kept happening more and more frequently (I think it got to daily). And then I just bought a new one.

Looks like my original lasted almost exactly 5 years. I couldn’t find a warranty of discount to get the second. I monitored the price on Amazon and got it for exactly $100 ($4 cheaper then I had years earlier).

My guess is that there is 4 years left on this new one.

Had the same problem, pulled the plug on it yesterday and today it worked again, will be interesting to see for how long.

About 7 Days, did not work this morning. Are they made to fail? Really don't want to buy a new one after this.

Same problem. Disconnecting from the current does not help. I am looking for a solution to the problem through repair. I was surprised by the message about a speaker malfunction. The speaker works properly without distortion. I would be grateful for advice.

Same here. Speaker works, light works, both work at the same time. I can manually turn on the light at wake up time and light and sound works at the same time. It just stops lighting up at the alarm time instead of getting brighter.

@klausnoecken Have you made sure the power adapter's voltage doesn't drop under load? Have you checked the current draw of the alarm when it's "going off"?

par

I tried another power supply, but did not get a positive result. In addition, I tried to turn on the backlight after the sound signal sounded; it can be activated manually. The process of the alarm going off is this: first a dim light appears, gradually it becomes stronger and at the very last moment the light goes out and the alarm melody starts. When a melody is playing, I press the backlight button and it turns on, while the melody continues to play.

@alexeyobraztsov Can you upload some pictures of the circuit board(s) inside the alarm clock? Ajout d'images à une question existante
