How to replace the cooling fan in GE side by side fridge?

The fridge is not cooling well and the foods in the freezer are melt .. and the fridge compressor is very very hot.

When I put an external fan behind the fridge, everything became good and fridge is working well.

Is it the cooling fan problem? If so please tell how to fix it or how to replace the coolng fan ?

Thank you

From what you've described, it sounds like the condenser fan has failed. On the skid underneath there is most likely a condenser coil and a small motor and fan. If the compressor is running so too should the fan. If it is not, you'll need to replace it. Get the info off the old motor to identify the size (its probably a small black steel-encased motor called a watt motor). Its normally held on by 4 screws. Might come with new fan blade attached, or you'll need to carefully remove the fan blade from old motor and put on new. Be very careful you don't bend the fan when you do as you will unbalance it!!!

To add to @brandon_k answer, here's a link to a video that shows how to replace the condenser fan in your model.

If the fan is faulty and needs to be replaced, there are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for WR60X10209 to get results.

Thank you a lot Mr. jayeff for the useful reply .. the video is absolutely helpful.

But the fan is rotating very slowly.. may is it faulty ? Or this is due to the DC 12v motor ?

I don't know.

Try disconnecting the power from the refrigerator and then manually rotating the fan and see if it spins freely.

The fan has 3 wires so I'm thinking that its speed may be controlled by varying the amount of DC to the fan from the control board and that the 3rd wire is for the speed sensor. Just like it is in some computers with 3 wire fans. But this is only a guess.

If it doesn't spin freely then most probably it is a mechanical problem with the fan

Ok will check .. thank you again Mr Jayeff
