Customer broke their newest iPad 9 (10.2) and her daughter ended up breaking her device. I was wondering if the 7th and 8th gen digitizer glass would work with the 9th gen. Thank you!

Yes the iPad 7th/8th Gen digitizers are compatible with the iPad 9th Gen. Just fitted one, connections are the same. Touch works fine.

As far as I can tell no, the digitizer on the iPad 9 is different so that it can use true tone, you will have to get an iPad 9 digitizer to replace it.

Actually they are the same.
I've tested them together and they work just fine
Likely the 7th/8th Gen are interchangeable but vendors advertise digitizers for 7th/8th Gen but separelty for 9th Gen. Though fits physically and connects properly, surely there must be something different between 7th/8th and 9th otherwise the sellers will have just advertised digitizers for 7th/8th/9th if all 3 are common betweeen the 3 models.
Update: I have visually verified and physically confirmed that the digitizer of the front camera opening round hole of iPad 9th Gen is at least 50% larger than the hole opening of digitizer for iPad 7th and 8th Gen.
Futhermore, top on either sides about 1" left of the Power Switch and right Audio Port, the iPad 9th Gen digitizer has a barely visible round hole which is not exactly an opeiong but they are there. This I think is to do with the 2 white sensors located inside the housing and situated just under where the 2 holes are. The 7th/8th do not have the sensors or 2 holes in the digitizer.

You will also notice that the camera hole is bigger on the iPad 9th Gen. than the previous generations.

Is it causing issue in front camera preview??
You must use the same back camera lens cover on the digitizer that came on the OEM digitizer on the 9th when replacing the 9th Gen screen. Otherwise there could be a side shadow effect on the displayed image.

Hi Fabian, you can use the same Touch Panel / digitiser & LCD. The True Tone function won’t work as older Touch Panels / digitisers (7th Gen & 8th Gen) won’t have.
All other functions such as the LCD & Touch work though.

As a professional refurbisher I can tell you that the digitizers for 7th gens if installed on a 9th Gen. will display the TruTone feature.

Short answer is yes. The digitizer and LCD for a 7th Gen. will also work on the 8th and 9th Gens.

Yes the iPad 7, 8 , and 9 all function fine with the same digitizer. Just be sure to use the correct bracket for the front camera.

I read somewhere that the front camera opening of the digitizer for the iPad 9th Gen is slighly larger than 7th /8th Gen. So maybe backward compatible with 7th/8th but not the other around if you have spare 7th/8th digitizer lying around. Also another poster noted if you install the 7th/8th digitizer on an iPad 9th, there may be shadow issue with the picture around the peripheral edges. But digitizers between 7th and 8th should be just fine.
