My refrigerator has flashing display and won't start. WPW10312695

I have a Maytag refrigerator that stopped working after an extended 3-hour power outage. Searching the internet I found that this is due to a fault on the control board, WPW10312695. This board is used on a number of North American manufactured refrigerators. No one appeared to be able to repair the board but there were several sites willing to sell a replacement board.

I decided to throw a heat gun on the board because the refrigerator did work while it had been running. Sure enough, after about a minute at a low heat the refrigerator started up and ran. I quickly put it back together so that I could start the cooling. This is unfortunately only a temporary solution.

@asharpe can you take the last paragraph and post that as a separate answer? That way you answered your own question but at least it will not get deleted as an unanswered question. there is some good information here.....

Everything now was good but I was determined to repair the problem now that everything in the refrigerator was cold. I removed the power and opened the back of the refrigerator and removed the control board. Next to U8 on the board is a 10uf capacitor. When I tested it, it measured only 10nf. I replaced the capacitor and the refrigerator was able to start on its own from cold and has worked ever since.

I hope that someone else will find this helpful.
