HP 620 WHEN connected to power,cooling fan only works but pc does not

Hi,

Does it work OK when on the battery only?

If also not, try a power refresh and check if that resolves the problem

Here’s the procedure:

i). Disconnect the charger from the laptop.

ii). Remove the main battery from the laptop.

iii). Remove the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop. Go to p.56 & p.108 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC battery, respectively.

Notes:

Remember the orientation of the RTC battery before removing it. Usually it is +ve on top as marked on the battery.

Measure the voltage of the RTC battery when it has been removed from the motherboard. If it is <2.5V DC replace it. The battery type is marked on the battery. Usually it is a CR2032 which is commonly available everywhere e.g. supermarkets. It is a non-rechargeable Lithium coin cell battery with a life span of approx. 4-6 years, so if the one in your laptop has never been replaced and is older, I suggest that you buy a new one.

iv). Press and hold the laptop’s Power On button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

v). Reinsert the RTC coin cell battery- remember the orientation, re-assemble the laptop, re-insert the main battery, connect the charger to the laptop and try to start it.

If it starts, there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the above procedure has reset the BIOS back to its factory defaults. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is started. Also any user defined BIOS settings that have been altered by you to suit your particular operating requirements will need to be changed back also.
