Which Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for 2008 Mac?

Hi guys,

I am trying find out which Bluetooth and Wi-Fi card (AirPort - the latest one) I can install but no luck - I am so confused from all the part numbers etc... :(

I like to replace my bluetooth and add the Wi-Fi.

Thanks a lot for your ideas :)

Your system is limited to what Apple offered for Bluetooth and WiFi services as only theirs have the needed OS drivers. If you are running Windows or Linux you might be able to install a PCI board which can support newer options.

The first Mac Pro Mid 2016 offered them as an add-on option, Early 2008 and newer models had them as standard.

Apple offered a Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR plug-in board and AirPort Extreme card (802.11a/b/g/n) both fitted into the main planar logic board.

Hi @danj thanks for quick answer, I am running OSX Monterey :) so is there any way I can get same/similar BT and Wi-Fi like MBP2019 ? So I can use AirDrop, AirPlay, Sidecar, etc… ?

@roboscrap - Sorry, just not possible running either OS-X/macOS OS's.

I've not tried this but jumping to Linux or Windows and find a WiFi/BT PCI card that works under it is the only way I could see you get newer BT/WiFi services.

@danj and what if I use WiFi/BT from Mac Pro Late 2013 ? And there should be drivers under macOS Monterey ?

@roboscrap - Sorry, it won't work in your system. Think of it this way can your old analog TV pickup digital stations straight-up? Nope! And there is not adapter or converter either unlike what we first had when we transitioned to digital TV stations.

Sorry connection standards for these units changed between the different Mac's.

This is what you need WiFi 6E AX210 PCIE WiFi Card Expands Wi-Fi into 6GHz but you'll need to run Linux or Windows on your Mac Pro.

One other option is to get a WiFi extender unit, instead here we plug in the Ethernet into your system. Sorry that won't help your BT issue.

Maybe its time for a new Mac if newer bluetooth & WiFi is important to you. Look at the 2013 unit that's what I have! It's still not the newest. Can you accept the answer - Thanks!
