fans running at full speed after reapplying thermal paste

Hi guys, I recently resurrected a lightly liquid damaged mac from the dead.

It was running perfectly afterwards apart from some random graphics glitches.

I decided to reapply thermal paste in case it was GPU heat related and ever since I have a problem with the fan running at full speed and slow general system speed.

I know on the older non unibody macs there was a thermal sensor on the heatsink and I once forgot to reconnect to the logic board which gave the same results. I cannot however see any sign of such a sensor on this unibody.

I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM several times with no success.

The macbook is charging perfectly and everything else is working fine.

I would appreciate any help you can offer and promise to post back with any results.

Does anyone know the location of the cpu thermal sensor on this mac?

Download and install iStat to monitor your temperatures. You can download and read about it from click here Double check all your connections. The fans running on high all the time usually indicate the SMC isn't seeing something or isn't happy about what it sees. Please look to your system logs to see what they are saying is going on. Run the extended AHT (Apple Hardware Tests) off the OS X install disks to see what if any error codes are produced. Please get back with us with the results of the fore mentioned.

Thanks ABCellars, I am going to download istat now. Unfortunately i have only just come to macs so don't know where to find my log files but will also read up on this now. I don't have any disks with the mac, I was given it by a friend who spilled fizzy water on it. I should have just left it while it was working and put up with the glitchy graphics but having repaired laptops for years I though it was a simple task to replace thermal paste!
