MBP A1990 Mid-2018 will not turn on

Hi guys,

I am starting into MacBook repairments, and in my company we have a case of a dead MacBook Pro Mid-2018 (model A1990). It turns on and fans start spinning, but the screen never turned on. I have already tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM to no avail. I had to open it up, unplugged the battery, tried once again, nothing.

Finally I decided to take the logic board out and inspect it. I found what looks like liquid damage, and after some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush, the corrosion remains. Here is the picture:

I do not see any dead components, and am currently scouting for this laptop's schematics and boardview. Any troubleshooting tips or experiences with similar issues will be appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read through guys, and have great day!

How about plugging in an external monitor to see if that works?

I have not tried that. Checked the issue with the flexgate, but the problem is that only the fans spin, I have no chime, and after a minute, fans ramp up like crazy for no apparent reason.

It does look like something go onto the logic board but this is the bottom side not the side a spill would normally get to. Heres a better image of a good board 15" Logic bd

I would see if a bit of flux and some solder helps. I would use a small nozzle'd hot air rework station.

Yessir! I is the underside and I was baffled to see something like that there. Maybe it got wet underneath and lifted promply splashing only that tiny part? Thanks for the suggestion, will try cleaning those pads to see if it helps.

Ok guys, after some more work, it turned out that the suggestion to clean the leads properly was the correct one. I cleaned them once again for good measure and after I opened the screen it turned on! I had bad luck the first time, and it looks like the keyboard flex-cable was not connected right on the top of the laptop. Fixed that and now the computer works like a charm!

Thanks for your help!
