Logic Board Replacement compatability question

Hello, I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" (A1286). I have a question regarding the logic board. I have the base model which has a 2.0ghz i7 cpu. The logic board is this. I am wondering if I can replace it with this. Both Logic boards say they are compatible with the A1286 model but feature different cpu/graphics cards. I am finding that I need just a little bit more horse power and graphics power so instead of selling and buying a new computer I thought I would just get a new logic board and sell my old one. I am quite savy with computers and making repairs but, I wanted to make sure everything would work before I bought the new board. Thanks

To directly answer your question. they take the same heatsinks and upper case so the mounting holes will line up. They take the same LVDS/video cable so there will be no conflict there. They are interchangeable.

I highly suggest you put your money into other upgrades, such as maxing out memory or a SSD hard drive. The performance increase from these upgrades you will notice, especially increasing RAM. The difference in the processors on the 2 boards is so negligible that I doubt if you would see a full minute difference re-encoding a 2 hour movie, which is a processor intense operation. Upgrading the processor is typically the last bottle neck on a computer and it shows the least amount of gains in performance.

If you need more horsepower than this machine offers you might seriously consider parking this beast or selling it and buying a Mac Pro or leaving Apple and acquiring a multicore, multiprocessor server - if you can't afford the Mac Pro in that flavor. This laptop offers more horsepower than 90%+ of the laptops and/or home computers in use today. It is one of the most powerful laptops built to date.

I'm also wondering the same thing. I have a late 2008 15" unibody macbook pro, I'd like to put a 2011 i7 in here, if its possible/interchangeable.
