No power, replacement charged worked briefly and then stopped.

I purchased a Macbook Air 2017 locally as a test unit to diagnose, advised it just turned off one day and wouldn't come back on. Investigated it SMC reset etc nothing, no response.

Out of interest tested the charger voltage (as didn't have a spare) and noted no voltage, ordered a genuine replacement unit which arrived today, it worked as far as went green, then orange and the macbook turned on to the login page. Left it a little bit and the charger light has gone off and no sign off life again, voltage gone, replacement fuse does nothing.

Any ideas were to look as through thermal I see nothing getting hot but what could be causing the macbook to be killing the charger? Don't want to keep chucking £50 chargers at it if it kills them.

I would check the MagSafe connection point look for dirt and make sure it’s fully clean as well as inspect the MagSafe charger.

Replacing the battery with no Amber or Green MagSafe LED light tells us the charger is not getting power and the LED should be a steady Green when fully charged with takes a good 8 hours.

Both checked, the charger was from ReplaceBase reclaimed genuine new and wasn't cheap however could be one of those things I guestt.

The battery inside hasn't been changed to clarify, I basically plugged the charger in, it flashed green then went amber and stayed for a good 5 minutes like that, out of interest I opened the screen and it was all working. I closed the lid and thought best to let it charge, checked on it 5 minutes later and charger had no light and the Macbook was dead again.

I have taken the back off and disconnected the battery for over 30 minutes, I also tried a PMF and SMC reset both of which made no change.

At the moment I'm sending the charger back for a replacement but without any obvious signs of issue both thermal and looking visually I see nothing obvious. I'd like to test the voltage but difficult without a working charger and as of yet don't have a desktop PSU.

Did you inspect the systems MagSafe connector port? Often times it’s loaded with junk so the cord won’t contact the pins or the pins are dirty. It’s always the first thing I do cleaning them and making sure it looks like new.

Yes, cleaned with 99.8% pure alcohol, pins are good and not bent.

Charger looked fine to and looks clean, all checked before plugging in.
