Screen's Vertical Bands and Green "Fuzzy" screen

This one has me very concerned and confused.

I put a SSD (replaced the original HHD) in this computer years ago and it has run great ever since. This weekend I put a second SSD in the computer. I used it for a couple of days without any issues, all seemed great. Then my son was watching a video on the computer, the video became slower, the voice got slower and lower pitched and stuttering/glitching. Then the computer shut down automatically and powered back on automatically. The loading image and tone came on but it froze with the vertical line similar to what is in the image. It did not go past the half way mark for the progress bar during the start up.

Now the only image I get is the one shown in the picture. It makes the boot up tone and this is as far as the computer goes.

Wondering what I should do to fix it. I am hoping it is just a loose connection since I worked on it this weekend. Hoping the SSD's are not the issue. Any ideas will be helpful.

Looks like this may be the same issue I am having. ANSWER? I hope this is not the same issue I am having because I do not feel like trying to replace the GPU. But, if I have to replace it, I guess it will be time to learn something new.

Well, The GPU failed, Apple had some faulty GPUs in the 27" Mid 2011 iMacs, MacBook Pros, and Mac Minis.

You would need to buy a new MXM GPU and Replace it,

Keep in mind It Can be very tedious, You won't get a boot screen unfortunately. ;-[

You'll be looking for something like this.

Follow the 2010 iMac GPU guide they are basically the same.

@teamstarr - It will… but it would fail again, avoid the Radeon 6000 series they’ll fail with out doubt.

Okay, thanks @beanman56. I will avoid the Radeon cards. What specifications am I looking for in a card that will be compatible for my iMac? I feel it is better to buy something like this on Amazon than on eBay, but I could be wrong about that.

Looks like it would work but it does not mention the iMac as being one of the computers it is compatible with. In a video I watched on YouTube a guy recommended getting a GPU for a Dell Alienware as a good option for the iMac 2011 27".

Okay, thank you @beanman56. Now I need to learn about "flashing the card" and "transferring the Bios Chip." This project is quickly moving into the deep end of the pool where I can't touch the bottom anymore!
