How to fix a loud fan noise?

I put new thermal paste on the cpu and gpu but the fan is still loud I was wondering on how I can make it quiet again? Also where can I find replacement screws for holding down the optical drive and hard drive to screws in the logic board?

I got these error when running the diagnostic.

Update (11/20/2022)

The Mac mini is a late 2009.

This is the new update on the grey dvd that has diagnostics on it. I don’t know what this error is I was wondering if you can help me find out what the error is.

Update (11/25/2022)

I find out that the code was it the senor cable for the hard drive. I bought this from another person and they took out the hard drive and when they did they accidentally broke the sensor cable to the hard drive. But the problem is finding a replacement senor cable for a late 2009 Mac mini.

Can mid-2010 Mac mini hard drive sensor work to replace my sensor in my late 2009 Mac mini?

What type of temp sensor will work with my late 2009 Mac mini? I tried to look everywhere for one but can’t been seeing a Mac mini 2010 but I don’t if that will work.

I would run the onboard diagnostics or locate the original Grey CD/DVD’s that came with the system to locate the one with diagnostics.

Could I just reset the SMC to stop the fan noise?

Even tried hold down command option p an r and still didn’t help.

Often when I see or hear of a fan issue it’s either bad or the symptom of SMC going into CPU safe mode as one or more of SMC sensors have become disconnected or failed so SMC is trying to protect your system from damage.

Here’s the guide getting to the fan and the part Mac mini Model A1283 Fan Replacement

So I need to replace the fan then the loud fan noise will stop?

@Jordan Chapman - Run diagnostics as I ousted in my comment above so you know if it’s SMC or a bad fan. The fan has a tachometer which often fails.

par

@danj - so if it’s the fan then just replace the fan?

par

Did you get any errors? That will tell us what’s next.

par

@Jordan Chapman - you’ll need to dig out the grey disks that came with the system. One will be marked diagnostics.

The CPU heatsink has a transistor stuck to it to sense the CPU temperature (one leg is removed and two wires go to the logic board. Has this fallen off? It's just held on with a plastic clip. If it has failed I think it can be replaced with a 2n3904.

Where would it be located and idk if it has I bought pre-owned so I look at the logic board and added new thermal paste but did see anything missing or anything.

If that part does fix it do u have to soldier it on then?

Hi Jordan, here is a photo of the HDD sensor - it's simply a 2n3904 transistor with the Base and Collector joined together and going to one side of the plug and the Emitter going to the other side - hopefully you can see how this is wired from the photos. I added a couple of closer views.

I had thi issue too, but with a little complications. It was fixed in the following pathology. Close background apps and processes. Close open tabs in your browser. Run a malware scan. Increase airflow around your computer's vents. Clean out dust in ports and vents. Turn off your computer, wait a few minutes, and then turn it back on again.

I agree! Many a time you have over extended the systems resources.

In this case we have a sensor issue (review the snapshots of diagnostics). So the systems SMC logic is thinking there is a problem.
