computer shut down Automatically
While on the net the computer will shut down ,I get the rainbow circle and the computer has to be shut off and restarted

Try blowing out the vents with some canned air. Dust acts like a blanket that holds in heat and makes everything work poorly. In extreme cases, too much heat and the computer will automatically shut down to keep from melting the processor. You can find canned air at any electronics or office supply store.

which browser are you using? I have many problems with explorer but none with safari..

Maybe the ibook is overheating. Flash videos and animations could make the computer running hotter and since your ibook G4 is six years old the fan may need to be cleaned.

I am using Safari and it doesn't matter when it shut down.It did shutdown within 5 mintues after turning it on and sometimes it will go a hour.I bought a laptop pad with a pad to keep it cool in case the fan wasn't working but that doesn't seem to matter.

It's happening only on the web or also when disconnected ? You have to determine if it's a power issue caused by a faulty DC in board or a overheating issue that will shutdown the computer to protect it from a meltdown.
