Phone reboots every 3 minutes, reads 0% battery

My iPhone 12 mini reboots every 3 minutes, reads 0% battery when booting back up, and gives me an "important battery message" saying it does not recognize the battery (even though it is the original battery). This began about a week ago and it was manageable because it would only do the reboot cycling for about an hour each day, and then otherwise would work perfectly fine. Now it has been rebooting for 24 hours straight, I took it to Best Buy but they said since there is likely an electronic issue (as opposed to just a battery issue or a cracked screen) that I would need to pay the full $400 for a replacement as Apple would not repair it. Is there any way I can repair this on my own? Panic log is here: https://pastebin.com/tYQ9HqM0

The beginning of the panic log reads:

Darn it!
The battery has failed.

And when the repair is done, Don't be alarmed by it saying something like "Important Battery Message" It won't effect anything!

What makes you say the battery failed? The phone works fine when not stuck in a reboot loop, which makes me think it is a sensor issue, not a battery issue.

Hi Jolien,

Yeah, I have to agree with @beanman56, your battery is shot. There are two components to the battery; the battery cell itself and the sensors built into the battery. At the very least your sensors have failed. The clue is in the following line of your panic log:

Missing sensor(s): TG0B TG0V

@flannelist has written our definitive guide to kernel panics, and here's the relevant line you need to see

=== Watchdog Timeout or Thermalmonitord ===

Included in its system processes, iOS contains a regular check of sensor input. If it does not hear from these sensors within three minutes, it reboots the phone.

Read past the panic string to find the missing sensor.

  • TG0V and TG0B are a function of the battery.

So yes, it is a sensor issue, but those sensors are in the battery. The solution here is to replace the battery, period.

Especially with the "Important Battery Message" error, I am liable to agree. The Important Battery message appears when the iPhone cannot verify the battery installed is the one originally installed, or most recently installed by Apple (and paired to the device). I have not ever tried to extract the board from a failed battery, but the battery board is the keeper of this data and also manages sensor data. So this sounds like a double whammy for failed battery.
