When I put the battery on the charger it says it’s charging but when I take it off the battery and try to use it it’s completely dead what do I try to fix it

Hi,
What is the model number of the camera?
Are you charging the battery whilst it is still in the camera or are you charging it removed from the camera?
It could be something as simple as a failed battery. Try replacing the battery and check if that resolves the problem. Even rechargeable batteries have a lifespan.

i took it out the camera and put the battery in the charger and the model is panasonic palmcord pv-v425d

Don't know the model but have you checked the battery with a voltmeter to see what its voltage is after it has been "charged"?
@jayeff the battery won’t charge it had been on the charger for 1 day and it still says it’s charging
