Why is my TV no longer responding to remote?

I have a Vizio E3D470VX smart tv which stopped responding to remote commands. I have tried all suggestions on YouTube regarding Vizio with no results. Quick story—tv powers up and responds to remote commands but after several minutes it no longer responds. If I push the power button to shut down, the screen goes black after a few seconds then sound goes off after a few more seconds. Also, when it shuts down there is a “pop” sound emitted. After a few seconds I push the power button and there is two “pops” and the video comes on but no sound. I shut down the unit again then power up again. On the second power up both the video and sound come on and the tv responds to remote commands which lasts about 15 minutes then no longer responds. I have replaced the power board but that did not correct the problem. Any suggestions?

Hi @patrick1038

Does it work OK if you use the TV control buttons on the side of the TV?

If not then it may be a problem with the mainboard

If so use a digital camera or the camera in a mobile phone to check that the the remote is working OK.

Turn on the camera or open the camera app in the phone and point the end of the remote that is normally pointed towards the TV, towards the camera lens so that you can see it in the LCD screen of the camera or phone.

Press the Power button on the remote and there should be a light at the end of the remote when seen in the LCD screen.

If the remote is OK it may be a faulty IR sensor in the TV or perhaps a problem with the mainboard.

@patrick1038 all of this sounds like you have deeper issues. This doesn't sound like issues with the remote or the IR board at all. Remember that the IR board connects to the main board. There, the main board "sends" signals to turn the power on etc. to the power board. Sound and video are controlled by the main board. All these delayed reaction of sound, no video and popping sounds etc. appears to focus on the main board.Let's see teh boards and interconnect cables. Post some images of those with your Question. Since it is a Vizio and schematics are not available, I would consider replacing the main board. Even a used one might be useful for further troubleshooting.
