Upgrading memory on MacBook

I see other questions and answers about updating MacBook from 2GB of RAM to possibly 6GB, but I am a complete beginner when it comes to computer terminology and I was hoping someone could please verify that I could do that same on my computer. Here's some info I can find about my laptop:

Model Name: MacBook

Model Identifier: MacBook6,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 2 GB

Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Serial Number (system): W89518EC8PW

I have no idea what any of this means. I don't even know what RAM is, but was recently told I should increase the memory on my computer. (I guess that's RAM??) Please help!

It will take two 4GB sticks of RAM Type: PC3-8500 DDR3 Min. RAM Speed: 1066 MHz

You should download "MacTracker", is an OS X software that gives you stats over every machine built, including max ram and OS supported.

You could go up to 8Gb, but I don't think you'd ever need that much. It's odd they told you to update without you having any issue.

Are there applications that run slow? If you feel your laptop sluggish, and you do, for example, lots of Videogame playing and graphic editing, you may enjoy some more Ram.

If your issue is different, for example lacking space to store your media, you could enjoy instead a bigger Hard Disk, or an external unit.

However, if you need Ram, follow the guide given by Meyer and check the ram chips sold on this site.

Ram Upgrade is one of the easiest things you can do by yourself, even without practice.
