Ps5 made weird screech and shut off, now won't boot, finally fried?

I turned on the ps5 and at the home screen to turn on the controller, it all of a sudden made a weird screech sound and just shut off. It was one of those sounds youve never heard an electronic make and think "that can't be good"

When I first hit the power button after a rest, it beeps, blinks blue for about 15 seconds, then powers off. If I hit reset it beeps twice, then when I hit power it blinks blue 2 or 3 times and shuts off. If i repeat again it beeps and doesn't blink at all. At no point does it sound like its booting.

any tips or recommendations would be much appreciated!

The sound you're hearing may or may not be a concern but this is usually due to a few things.

Check for overheating:

  1. Ensure the system has room to breath and well ventilated.

Power cycle the PS5 (although it seems you may have done this):

  1. Completely shut down the PS5.
  2. Unplug the power connection from the wall for a few minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and push the power button. (sometimes fixes issues)

Enter Safe Mode:

  1. Turn off the PS5 by pressing the power button until it beeps twice.
  2. Once off, press and hold the power button again until you hear a second beep, indicating Safe Mode.
  3. Connect a controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.

If you are able to access safe mode try these steps as well.

  1. Update the system software:
    1. You can use the internet option or use a USB to manually update if the internet option is available.
  2. Restore the PS5 console to the default factory settings:
    1. Restoring default settings won’t delete content on console storage such as games, apps, screenshots, video clips, and saved data.
  3. Clear Cache and Rebuild Database:
    1. Select Clear System Software Cache
    2. Select Rebuild Database to scan the drive and create a new database of all content on the system.
