Hi William,
First of all, it would help quite a bit if you included the model number of your multimeter since Klein makes quite a few and it's hard to be exact when there are significant differences between them.
Until then, your issue makes me think of what happened when I was teaching a basic electrical circuits class and we had a bunch of Radio Shack multimeters for use.
What would happen is that a student would put the meter into resistance mode then try to measure voltage. As a result they would frequently blow an internal fuse inside the meter, which is why I kept a generous supply of replacement fuses on hand.
So on the off chance you might have had the meter on the wrong type of measurement and that happened to you, I looked up some general information on Klein multimeters and found that they do indeed have fuses that could be blown on yours. I'd suggest you open it up and check your fuses to see if that's what's happened. Here's an example of what you might find inside your meter.
And yes, I do realize the irony of needing a multimeter to check the fuse on your multimeter, but hey, it is what it is.

This is why you keep 2 meters: One standby, one you regularly use. The standby meter for things like fuse testing can be a el cheapo affair like the one in the RBT (I replaced it with a Southwire, but it's a standby).

Are you trying to read AC or DC? If DC, the default function setting is AC and the meter will not read voltage. Be sure the function setting is set to DC when reading DC volts.
