The click wheel topped working. I can turn it on, and it is recognized by my Mac Mini. I cleaned the front with alcohol recently. Perhaps that is the cause? Can it be fixed?

@daver77545 could be a bad click wheel or an issue with the connector/flex cable. The Classic 7 opens up identical to the Classic 6. There really is no difference in hardware, just firmware issues. The guides for the 6th gen will work for the 7th gen as well. This model is a bit of a Bear to open. The only real challenge is to open it after that, it's straightforward.
Open it up and have a look at the click wheel iPod Classic Click Wheel Replacement I would consider replacing the click wheel to either rule it out or completely rule it in as the issue. If a replacement works you know the issue was the click wheel. If it does not the issue is deeper on the logic board. Here is the challenge with that. There are no schematics etc. for any board repair available.
