Sorti en octobre 2020, le Dell XPS 13 9310 est physiquement très similaire aux modèles précédents mais propose des mises à jour optionnelles pour la carte graphique et le processeur. Cet appareil ne concerne pas le modèle 2-en-1.

Dell XPS 13 9310 Right side USB-C port not working

Is the right side USB-C port part of the system board or a separate "mini" board? I can't see damage but the port is not working for either charging or for connecting external devices. Any other suggestions to try? Thanks in advance.

Hi @jeffreyfosse

The USB-C ports are hard mounted on the motherboard.

Check the power status of the USB-C port in Device Manager to see if it is working OK as far as Windows is concerned and that it hasn't been disabled.

To get to Device Manager in Win10/Win11, press the Win key & x key (both keys together) and click on the Device Manager link in the menu box that opens.

Go to Device Manager → click on > of Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the list → right click on USB Root Hub¹ → Properties → Power management and see if the checkbox next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" has been checked.

If it has, uncheck it, click OK, close Device Manager and any other open Windows and then restart the laptop in the normal manner and check if the USB-C port now works OK.

¹ As I don't know how many USB Root Hub entries are showing in the list in your computer, you may have to check all of them, as above, as I don't know which one is associated with the right hand side USB-C port.

The right-side USB-C port on the Dell XPS 13 9310 is soldered directly to the system board (motherboard), not part of a separate "mini" board.

Check for debris or minor damage: Use a flashlight to inspect the port for dust, lint, or subtle pin damage. Even minor obstructions can disrupt connectivity.

Test with multiple cables/devices: Use a known-working USB-C cable and device (e.g., charger, monitor, or phone) to rule out cable issues. Ensure the cable supports both power delivery and data (some USB-C cables are charge-only).

Update BIOS and Drivers--Updating the BIOS resolved similar USB-C issues for some XPS users.

Power off the laptop, unplug the charger, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power. Reconnect and test

Device Manager Check

Repair Options:

  • System Board Replacement:
    • Since the USB-C port is soldered to the system board, repairing the port itself requires advanced micro-soldering skills, which most repair shops don’t offer. Replacing the entire system board is the standard fix.
    • Cost: System boards for the XPS 13 9310 range from $700–$900 for parts alone, plus labor.
