Pixel 9 Pro Fold – won’t boot after shutting down at ~20% battery

Hi, my Pixel 9 Pro Fold recently developed an issue:

Outer display failed first (fuzzy lines, then unresponsive).The phone would still power on using the inner screen for a while.

After charging and powering it off at around 20% battery, it has never booted back into the OS. It only stays in bootloader/fastboot mode. The device only stays on if connected to wall charger or USB to laptop.

I’ve reflashed stable firmware successfully, but the problem persists.

A local shop tested what they could (said the battery readings seemed fine) but couldn’t confirm the root cause.

I’ve read it could be:

The hinge flex cable failing,

One or both batteries,

Or, less likely, the mainboard.

I see batteries listed on iFixit, but not hinge cables or boards.

Question:

1. Has anyone seen these symptoms before and know if it’s more likely a flex issue or a battery?

2. Will hinge flex cables (or other Pixel 9 Pro Fold parts) be available here eventually, or are they Google-service-only?

Did you fixed the problem? im out of warraty and it appears that we have the same issue, did you noticed a question mark on the battery life indicator? (i had)

google quoted me 600$ and the phone is around 750$, it doesnt make much sence to me to repair with google.

Given everything, I lean towards hinge/flex-cable / connection being the root cause (or a major contributor), with a secondary contribution from battery/power-delivery. In other words: The outer display lost function (which suggests hinge/flex damage) → that damage may have progressed (or caused a short/connect issue) → power delivery/power path now impaired → boot failure.
Thus the battery may look fine in static measurement, but under load the connection or flex may fail causing the device not to get adequate power or lose necessary data/communication lines to boot OS.

If I were you, I would proceed with the hinge/flex path first (since outer display failure preceded everything) and then battery if hinge/flex repair doesn’t resolve.

Since iFixit noted that Google provides repair guides and replacement parts for this device, yes, plausibly Google is making parts available (at least to repair centres).

The availability and cost may vary; often official parts are reserved for authorised service centres or come with premium pricing/lead times.

For hinge/flex cables specifically: they might be more “behind the scenes” (repair centre only) and not in retail “part kits” yet (especially early after release). Over time (12-18 months) such parts tend to proliferate in aftermarket.

My suggestion on availability:

Short answer: yes, hinge/flex cables and other parts will likely become available (and maybe already are) for 9 Pro Fold. You’re already seeing aftermarket versions.

But: you should watch for:
- Correct version (Pixel 9 Pro Fold, not earlier Pixel Fold)
- OEM vs non-OEM quality
- Compatibility with your country service/parts channels
- Warranty or service implications of self-repair or non-official parts
If you are comfortable with repair or using a good local repair shop, you might order the part and have them install it.
If the phone is still under any warranty or service plan, check with Google/authorized service centre first — hinge/flex problems may be covered (or you might get a cheaper service).
Considering the battery also might be implicated, keep the battery parts/availability in mind too.
