The Pixel 8a parts list shows the screen adhesive as an optional component. I did not include this in my order. Have I made a mistake or can I refit the screen with the optional adhesive?

It is possible to use the old adhesive but it'll be less effective after opening the phone.
I personally would purchase the new adhesive.
Keep in mind the adhesive isn't just holding the phone together it also helps create the seal that helps prevent dust and water ingress.
