Trackpad replacement, different fitment.

So the trackpad on my 2012 Unibody 15" MacBook Pro stopped working. Im going to replace the trackpad, and I have y old 2012 13" Unibody laying around and want to use that trackpad, I took them apart, and the trackpads are exactly the same size, only difference is ribbon cable. Can I just swap the ribbon cable from the 15" to the 13" trackpad and use that? Everywhere I look it says trackpads don't fit. Don't want to spend on a new one when I have another laptop laying around I can salvage parts of.

@ednerkhalyl logic board connections are identical. If it physically fits, replacing the ribbon cable should be all that is required.

Well.. you wouldn't plug in a 120Volt hair dryer into a 220Volt plug would you?

The 13" and the 15" They are different sizes if I remember correctly, I've never tried swapping the cables, yes., the base trackpad looks the same.

Did the replacement since I had a 13" MBP for parts. The ribbon cable on the trackpad itself needs to be replaced with the one from the 15", just lift the tiny clip on the trackpad and swap the ribbon cables. Physically it's identical in size between the 13" & 15". Did this 3-4 months ago, it's been working perfectly ever since. Hope this helps!
