Can I replace by glossy screen to a high res?

Hi I know this is an old thread but I wanted to replace the screen in my mid 2012 2.3 glossy macbook with a 2012 high res one.. Did you find the ones you upgraded were fully compatible or will there be the boot black screen before the os loads as heard there could be a firmware problem?? Or does it depend on the model? (gpu etc. Thanks. If you have anymore information??

@tomb86626 - you'll need to find a 2011 15" matte hi res screen to install onto your 2012 15" Unibody system. There is no OS or other software or firmware issues. And the AMD GPU will support it.

There is a minor alteration to the LVDS cable which plugs into the logic board as Apple changed vendors of the connector and they are slightly different. Here the fiberglass tang which fits into the logic board connector width is about .25mm too wide so it won't slide in and you don't want to force it. All I do is using a fingernail file I carefully file the edge on each side equally ever so slightly and squarely. And that's it.

I've done about a dozen and I have one system myself which has work great for years!

Here's the needed part Unibody MacBook Pro 15" Complete Display, Antiglare and here's the guide Changement écran MacBook Pro 15" Unibody mi-2012

@danj OK great thanks for the advice, I have found a panel apparently a 2012 one which should fit. I was mainly worried about the full compatibility as I have seen many people who did the upgrade had issues with the display not showing until the os launches meaning it's not possible to access boot menus etc or see the loading screen. Was this not a problem when you did the upgrades previously? Or is because perhaps because it has the correct amd/Intel gpu configure so this isn't a problem??

@tomb86626 - The 2012 high res screen if I remember correctly is a glossy only, not Matte. Most people prefer the Matte as the fingerprints don't show up and the coatings don't fail.

The source of the display maybe what they encountered. The displays have an ID that the system needs to see to correctly know what the res is of the display. I only used original Apple displays new or used and as I was using Matte's that ment only the 2011's

Never encountered any odd behavior on mine or any of the ones I setup.

By chance you haven’t confused the newer Retina systems which went through a interface change between iDP and eDP signaling besides the panel ID issue.
