Hello everyone. Since I lost the power supply to this old beast, I started wondering if I could switch the proprietary connector to USB-C?
From what I searched, USB-C doesn't handle the max power output of the original, which is aproximatly 19V/6A, and I also can't find any diagram or pin layout of the connector, which is a shame. Even if it is slightly underpowered, can it run normally?

@vento588655503 check on here slightly different model, same idea. Use your multimeter to determine which contact is what. You will have to modify this on the logic board connector. You can't use USB C and still use your power supply. Any mod like that is a PITA since you will have to match the Voltage and Amperage to your Mac mini. I remember years ago people would convert the mini to "carputers" and every modder forum swore by the Carnetix PSU for the conversion. Start with that. Or consider replacing the current power supply with a USB-C power board and you can always use a buck converter if needed. Again, matching the Voltage and Amperage to your Mac mini will be the challenge.

Converting a proprietary laptop connector to USB-C is possible, but only with the right hardware. Standard USB-C defaults to 5 V; to reach 19–20 V you need a USB-C Power Delivery (PD) trigger/decoy module that negotiates 20 V from a compatible PD charger. Power is the key issue: 19 V × 6 A ≈ 114 W. Many USB-C chargers max out at 60–100 W, which may cause slow charging, throttling, or shutdown under load. Without the original pinout, you must carefully identify ground, positive, and any sense pins using a multimeter. It may run underpowered, but reliability isn’t guaranteed.
