3DS won't charge but orange light still on

Sorry if bad english. I'll try to be as complete as possible. My 3ds doesn't charge. Here is all the information I have been able to recover so far

  • Issue is the same with another battery and current battery work fine with another 3DS
  • Without the battery, orange light turn on for 5 seconds as expected
  • When turning on, charger is recognized and orange light turn on normally. Charging logo appear on the top screen
  • But when the console is closed, sleep mode, orange light still turned on
  • When the console is turned off, orange light is on for 5 seconds before turn off. Plug again charger doesn"t make the light appear unless I remove and replug the battery, no matter if the charger is removed or still plugged
  • At the beggining of the issue, when turned off, orange light stayed on indefinitely even with unplugged charger
  • The console has never contacted water

Here's some pictures if it can help. Thanks you for your time

Hi!

Okay, is the 3DS fully up to date? Is the 3DS modded??

I would first check the fuses to see if they are OK.

If yes, you can replace the charge port and see if that works.

How do the battery pins look? Still OK? It could cause this issue as well if one of the pins are damaged.

If replacing the charge port didn’t fixed it and if the pins are 100% OK, you might want to check for shorts on the motherboard..

Can you let us know how it goes? Thanks!

The 3DS is fully up to date. No modded

Seems I can't send photos of the pin, but for me they're fine. I'll looking for multimeter and check if the fuse work. I hope so

By short, you want to mean short circuit ? If there are no problem with charge port or fuse I'd like to know how I can see short, pretty new to this

Thanks you very much

Edit : After further inspection, I think I've found the origin of the problem : The battery has been connected backward

Ah! So does it work now, now the battery is connected properly? Thank you :)!

Nope, the battery only goes backward fir less than 1 second, but it's enough for make a short circuit. Now I just waiting for the multimeter tuesday, and see what piece I have to replace

Alright, please keep us posted! Thanks!

I’m having the same issue. My 3DS has been sitting for almost a year while being fully disassembled since I was doing a full restoration on it. Everything seems to be working fine. I even checked the F1 and F2 fuses and both seem to be all good but when I plugged the 3DS into a charger. The system is doing the exact same thing as yours is. System is accepting that it’s charging with the orange light on and solid but the 3DS seems to not be charging at all but still power on with the charger connected. I literally just purchased a battery from Ifixit for the system since I thought it was a battery issue, but the 3DS is still having the same problem as before. I’ve heard that it could be a failed IC chip where the orange light stays solid but the battery never gains power, it is often a failure of the charging IC chip or maybe other associated components on the motherboard?
