Start by separating a bad remote from a TV receiver/input-board problem.

1. Put fresh batteries in the remote and check that they are installed the right way.

2. Test the remote with a phone camera: point the remote at the camera and press buttons. If you see the IR LED flashing, the remote is probably sending a signal.

3. Clean the small IR window on the front/bottom of the LG TV and make sure nothing is blocking it.

4. Power reset the TV: unplug it from power for 2 minutes, then hold the TV's physical power button for about 15 seconds before plugging it back in.

5. Try the physical buttons/joystick on the TV. If those also do not control the TV correctly, the fault is not the remote.

6. If this model uses an LG Magic Remote, try re-pairing it after the reset by holding Back + Home for a few seconds, then pressing the wheel/OK button near the TV.

If the remote flashes in the camera test but the TV never reacts after cleaning and a power reset, the likely repair area is the TV's IR receiver/keyboard board, its cable, or the main board. If the TV is already on Wi-Fi, the official LG ThinQ phone remote can be used only as a temporary test; it will not fix a failed IR receiver or a TV that is not booting/responding.
