You never know. Once they're commercially available, it's possible the iFixit staff may decide to tear one apart and publish their findings, but the majority of guides are written by individual contributors. Maybe one day someone who works on one will take the time and effort to put one together for the rest of us.

@alex10658 knowing what I know about the iFixit staff and leadership, you bet there will be guides. That crew is incredibly progressive and always has an eye on future development. It's a team with a vision that extends beyond that of other public forums.

Keep you eyes peeled and poke around the forum as well as the guides and you'll see that those guides will be here as quick as quantum computing.

Wild? Microsoft just gave us a reason to start writing the guide.

Alex, you posted this in March—well, Microsoft’s Majorana 1 topological quantum chip dropped earlier this year (yes, 2026), and suddenly this category doesn’t feel so premature anymore.

Unlike traditional superconducting qubits that cry if you look at them wrong, Microsoft’s approach uses topological qubits based on InAs/Al hybrid nanowires and Majorana zero modes. Translation: the quantum information is braided in a way that makes it inherently immune to local noise. In iFixit terms, it’s like Apple finally soldering the battery with a pull-tab—except the pull-tab exists in a higher dimension and you need a dilution refrigerator to access it.

Teardown reality check:

Operating temp: ~10 mK. That’s colder than outer space. Your standard iOpener heat gun isn’t going to cut it; you’ll need a cryostat that costs more than a house.

Form factor: The chip itself is fabricated on a wafer using modified semiconductor processes (TSMC did the heavy lifting). So theoretically, if you could get the chip out of the fridge, you might use a standard spudger. Emphasis on might.

Repairability Score: 0/10. Not because it’s glued, but because opening the dilution refrigerator voids the warranty on reality itself. Also, if you accidentally decohere a topological qubit, you can’t just put it back together with T9000.

The good news: Since topological qubits are error-protected by physics rather than fragile engineering, the chip itself is surprisingly robust conceptually. The bad news: you still need liquid helium, microwave coaxial cables, and a PhD to perform what iFixit would classify as a "battery replacement."

So yeah, this page is wild—but give it another decade. By 2036, we might actually need a "Microsoft Azure Quantum Node Disassembly" guide. I’ll bring the cryogenic gloves; someone else bring the suction cup.
