3DS not turning on, charging lights up after USB C mod

Hello, "classic" 3DS, model 2011 CTRS-AA-C0. I just installed a USB-C mod for the charging port, unfortunately I dont have a recent status from before the port change. It worked some time before and was sitting in a drawer for the last two years.

Current state:

  • charging LED lights up with USB C connected
  • power LED not reacting to the Power button
  • new battery

As the battery is also new, I can rule that out. Any fuses I should check?

I know this sounds unlikely but check the power button. It might be worn out and won't work properly.

Other than that I have no idea, there's a lot of things that could've gone wrong with a type-c mod, like ICs shorting because of fast charging or unstable power from the charging port. First thing I'd advise you to check for is connected solder points that might've formed during the soldering process, and if there aren't try an new battery/connect a power supply to the contacts just to be certain that it isn't a battery problem.

also is your charging light blinking? bc if it is then that means the console haven't recognized a battery and is not charging at all.

Thanks for the power button suggestion, I tried it now directly on the PCB and the Power LED actually lights up for about 5s, then turns off again. But, bare PCB with just the new battery and nothing else attached, so thats to expect I guess?

Charging light was constantly orange, kept it charging for about 1h and it turned off automatically. No fast charging (at least for now), only connected to a regular USB-C port on my laptop dock.

I take the power LED now as a good sign, can I go to assemble it again and test if it works? Just want to spare me another disassembly if possible.

@whitehelix If it lights up that's great news! it means that your 3ds is indeed booting up but isn't working fully because the screens and peripherals aren't attached. rn I'd suggest you to fix the power button and put everything together to test it, as there shouldn't be other things wrong with it if the power LED lights up. Also, you did a good job on the soldering part so that should be ok as well, there's a high chance that it'll work right away once assembled.

Hi!

Most likely that something is damaged on the motherboard causing this.

I would check the fuses first.

Here they explain where the fuses are: https://www.reddit.com/r/consolerepair/c...

If the fuses are fine, you need to check other components on there, or replace it...

Please let us know how it goes!

No luck with F1 or F2, both are fine and not blown.

Alright. Well, like Leo said, it could be a lot of things now. Please check your solder work around the USB-C port.
