add another hard drive?

I have the above named pc. I originally purchased this new back in 2004 i believe.

I recently reformatted the machine as years of use, clogged it & performed poorly.

After doing so, I wanted to access the internet, and my cable internet provider, offered free McFee antivirus software.

This is where the problem started.

the McFee requirede i download & insdtall Windows service pack 2, to install thier antivirus software properly.

In doing so, my harddrive space virtually disappeared on my 'C' drive.

Not knowing i had ONLY ONE harddrive, and it was partitioned.

I would like to remove the partition in the one drive I have, and purchase an additional interneal hard drive.

Can I do this (as I see the expansion slot & cables), also, what size harddrive is the maximum the system will handle.

Will the following:

WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLUE WD5000AAKB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 3.5 Internal Hard Drive work?

Thank you for the time in reading this,

Pat

Had to look twice as that drive comes as either SATA or IDE. IDE is what you need for your computer. Looking at the specs for the computer I can find no max size limits for the hard drive. Since you mention service pack two I am guessing you are using XP as a operating system. I can't recall if XP has a maximum drive size limit but it might.

If you want to remove the partition in your current drive without reformatting you will need software to help with that--Partition Magic is one good one but there are others. Finally you should be able to install the second hard drive, and the one you asked about should work. Ralph

Further check shows XP capable of 9 TB drives. Also I found a free partition manager. I have not used this so I can't vouch for it but will leave you the URL so you can check it out yourself. Ralph
