The 1 TB drives are 12.5 mm thick. We've had this question asked before but didn't find out if it worked. Maybe you can try this: Take the old drive out. Put some old playing cards on it till you get to the correct height and tape them down and see if it will slide in. If so then feel free to buy the larger drive. If not, better stick to the 640 GB that maclife mentioned.

Here's a 640 that we know will work: [produit lié absent ou désactivé : IF107-086]
When I originally wrote this, ALL drives over 500GB were 12.7mm and wouldn't fit in these systems. However, this has changed with AF (Advanced Format) drives being able to be 9.5mm and have capacities over 500GB without exceeding 9.5mm. Prior to AF, the largest you can install was 640-750GB.
If you can source a modern AF drive and have verified it's either 9.5mm, you shouldn't have a problem installing it. Some drives are even 7mm these days, and you will need a spacer to bring it up to 9.5mm for a clean installation. You can cut one from an SSD adapter or design one yourself with a 3D printer, if you know how to do this.
