I managed  to get data off by using [http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download|TestDisk] on Ubuntu because it was actually recognizing the drive, but let me tell you,  because the WD My Passport HD had some problems, it took a LONG time.  I ended up just getting off the files that were irreplaceable like pictures and stuff.
