How can I reinstall OS, as my system won't boot up

Texte:

Let me explain further...

Suddenly I was unable to boot, just a rotating circle,

I have gone through all the usual holding down of keys, including trying to boot from the CD however always the same rotating circle.

I have even changed the RAM.

So I removed the hard drive connected it to my Macbook Pro. I could see the data on the drive fine as an external drive. However Disk Manager did not like it.

I then ran DiskWarrior and it found an amount of corrections that it wanted to perform which I let run. Now the disk shows all the items correctly About > Storage which it did not originally.

Back in the iMac went the drive, however still no luck booting up.

So my question is - can I just reinstall the OS / or a Boot section like on a PC ?

The MacBook Pro is running El Capitan while my iMac is running Snow Leopard as I recall.

Thanks
