Have you checked that the microphone ''sound inlet'' hole in the case is not blocked with lint?
 
Use a strong light and a magnifying glass. If it looks blocked use a vacuum cleaner to try and suck it out. Do NOT use a metal probe etc as you may damage the micmicrophone which is right behind it.
