First, you don't need to shut down the computer every time.
Simply close the lid and allow it to go to "sleep mode". It will come right back to where you left off. Only restart if something isn't working right.
Second download "CCleaner". It will remove a lot of unwanted junk that has built up over the years.

Third right click the "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator".
Then type in "chkdsk /f" (Space between k and /). Press enter, Press Y as in yes, and restart the computer.
If no errors have been found, defrag your computer.
If you have the budget, buy an SSD drive.
