I agree with Tom, there is no reason they should refuse your warranty unless there is external or internal evidence of damage or prior “unauthorized” repair. If you do get an unhelpful Genius, you can ask for a manager or try again another day or at another store.

In a worst case scenario, the AudioIC problem is well documented and a long-term solution is at hand via repair shops that do micro-soldering repairs.
