My camera only turns on for one sec.

Hello,

I bought this camera two years ago and for one year it was not in use. I charged the battery for two days and tried to turn on the camera but it only stay on for one sec and then turns off. I am thinking that I might need a new battery but I want to be sure before buying it. I would like to not buy a new battery unless that's my only option.
