iPhone 5 LCD and Digitizer Replacement

40 minutes - 1 heure

Moderate

Mon problème

My husband's iPhone 5 slipped from his pocket on sidewalk and LCD cracked badly. Local repair shop asked for $90 but after watching some tutorials on you tube i decided to do it myself. it was my second repair, about 3 years ago i replaced lcd and battery of my daughter's iPhone 3g and it was successful.

Ma solution

I was so nervous, but the repair went better than expected. Most difficult part was to open the phone, I couldn't get suction even with tape applied. I used a knife's tip above headphone jack to lift the screen and got a tiny scratch there.

Once opened, every thing was just fine. I used tweezers and a wooden skewer to remove and pickup tiny parts. Putting everything back took less than 10 min and repair took about 35 min.

Mon conseil

Watch tutorials at you tube carefully and go to comments section on iFixit to get useful tips before repair. Home button connectors are very hard to remove, use heat gun or hair dryer at low setting and dig underneth using plastic tool ( I used wooden skewer) never use anything metal.

Put the rubber gaskets under ambient light sensor and ear speaker bracket properly otherwise they won't work properly.
