The problem was I listened to my computer experts in the repair business. Approximately 3 months after my warranty on IMAX ran out my computer completely shut down. Being most computer illiterate and needing it for my business I immediately took my IMAX into the computer experts, a high profile computer business in my neck of the woods. Upon their detailed (?) investigation I was told it was my hard drive and possibly my power supply and to fix it would NOT be worth it. However they would be more than happy to sell me a new one and would do me a favour of disposing of my IMAX for me. Something bother me about their unprofessional approach. I bought another computer (not an IMAX and not from them) and I took my IMAX home placed it on my desk and swore I would look at it when I had time. How hard can this be? That was March 2013!
I have just found time to look at this IMAX and my research led me to iFixit….after viewing their site I order a new power supply and upgraded hard drive….covering all the bases!
I had been told how difficult it was to repair a flat screen IMAX by the computer repair shop. Their advise was so self serving. Installing A NEW HARD DRIVE AND POWER SUPPLY WAS SO SIMPLE, it also returned to me my IMAX at a more than reasonable cost. I took the original hard drive to another shop and determined that there was nothing wrong with my hard drive…it now is a 1T external hard drive to my IMAX giving me 3T of memory. My enthusiasm has also led me to install an additional 8 meg. of RAM….even easier to do.
If going to a computer shop make sure the computer shop has a technician that actually knows something about apple products. So many have experienced PCs and think they are MAX experts as well. NOT! ...iFixit made my repairs a piece of cake and at a very reasonable cost. If I can do it anybody can!
