Mon problème

I was having the annoying intermittent speaker problem. For a while I was able to revive the speaker by squeezing the phone just to the right of the speaker port when it stopped working until it finally quit altogether and I was stuck with just speakerphone conversations.

Ma solution

Everything went smoothly with the repair except when I was finished the new speaker had the same issue. When I squeezed the phone next to the receiver I could get it to work but knew it would fail again. I opened the phone up again (grrrrr), removed the speaker, and carefully scraped the surface of the two gold contacts on the phone that sit under the speaker to ensure a better contact. After reassembling the phone it now works perfectly. This may have been the problem from the beginning but I wasn't about to open the phone for the third time to see if the original speaker now would work.

Mon conseil

Two things of importance when doing this repair: patience & organization. I put down a large box lid to work over. (this saved me twice when I dropped the the one non-magnetic screw). I also cut a strip of foam core and stuck a long piece of double-stick tape to it. Then as you go through the steps, stick the parts and screws (with mm sizes!) to the tape and write the step # and info underneath on the foam core. Also be really careful when working with the one non-magnetic screw. I used really fine tweezers to slowly put it back in place and still managed to drop it. Finally, read all the other repair stories before you start your repair to pick up any other tips that may save you time and aggravation.
