MacBook Air 11" Early 2015 I/O Board Replacement

45 minutes

Easy

Mon problème

Part of a headphone jack was stuck inside the headphone port.

Ma solution

I ordered a replacement I/O board. Removal and installation was simple.

Mon conseil

There's a hole on the backside of the headphone port. If there's no physical damage, simply removing the I/O Board and using a small pin allows for removal of any stuck pieces. (Unless you try a super glue trick you read online and end up sealing off the port.)

The GripStick extraction tool is great for removing broken off headphone plugs that are stuck in the jack. They are available in the Parts & Tool store here on iFixit.

I have a MacBook Air 2015 witha bad I/O board. Problem is that ordering the iFixit Pro Toolkit did me no good. One needs a Pentalobe 5 driver head to open the MacBook Air, but the “Pro” toolkit contained no such driver bit. With a magnifying glass and flashlight I studied each bit’s label. There is no Pentalobe bit. And don’t try calling iFixit for customer service; they simply ignored all my calls. I am an extremely disapointed customer.
