Not entirely sure that it was necessary to remove the motherboard and speakers, but it made for a cleaner repair overall. The problem is that you can't remove the speakers without removing the motherboard, and the acetone in the adhesive remover might damage the plastic speaker housings.

The Ifixit adhesive remover is acetone, color and fragrance. The kit is priced high for what you get - especially since you can get a giant bottle of acetone from your local dollar store. If all you're doing is changing a MBP battery, save your $ and just buy the plastic cards. You can get the syringe, gloves, eye protection and acetone at your local discount store.
