Motorola Moto X Pure Edition Battery Replacement

Difficult

Mon problème

My Moto X Pure Edition phone randomly died whenever the battery level was below 30%.

Ma solution

TL:DR version: Successful battery replacement went smoothly, but thoroughly removing the old adhesive took forever, and I did not successfully attach the new Precut Adhesive Sheet to the back cover.

Replacement part and kit: iFixit Moto X Pure Edition Replacement Battery Part and Kit (Item code: IF391-002-2) for $39.99.

- My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

- Excellent quality and value

- New battery is an OEM-equivalent produced by LG

- Kit provided everything needed to complete the repair for only $7 more than the part alone

- Minor issue: The guide mentions using 90% isopropyl alcohol for prepping the back cover surface for new adhesive, but the wipe in the kit is only 70% isopropyl alcohol

Guide: Motorola Moto X Pure Edition Battery Replacement

- My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

- Fairly comprehensive with some issues

- Photos were extremely clear and helpful

- Major Issue: No detailed guidance provided for applying the new precut adhesive sheet to the back cover. As you can see from my photo, the sheet ended up as a sticky ball, and there is no adhesive holding the back cover on the phone. This should be added as a video guide.

- Minor Issue: Thoroughly removing the old adhesive took forever. Most of the photos showed adhesive still present, so I wasn't sure if it was OK to leave some. Using tweezers and spudger didn't work well. The best tool was the ball of old adhesive (see photo). I kind of wish I had followed the last piece of advice and left most of the old adhesive in place since the new sheet was destroyed in the process.

Mon conseil

Step 11, Removing old adhesive: Very time consuming and problematic if you don't successfully install the new precut adhesive sheet. If you choose to remove all the old adhesive, the best tool is a ball of the old adhesive (see photo) used in a press and roll off motion.

Step 13, Disconnecting the battery connector: The tiny bit of plastic on the end broke off, so the spudger could any leverage. I had to carefully use the tips of the tweezers to do this.
