Damaged screen

Mon problème

My mac took a bit of a tumble and the bottom quarter of the screen was distorted to just lines. Took it into to an Apple store to make sure it was the right problem and see if it would at least be around the same price as fixing it myself, but ~$500 was a little pricey for me.

Ma solution

I only had two issues come up in the repair: taking the battery screws out with a flathead screwdriver and getting the glass off.

I saw that you could use a small flathead screwdriver, but it wasn't working for me for a bit. Just remember to keep it flat against one side of the star and you'll be fine.

I was hoping a hair dryer would work well enough to loosen the adhesive on the glass panel, but I wasn't so lucky. I looked on youtube for other guides and saw that someone didn't even use suction cups, just heated up the adhesive and used a metal hook to get the glass panel off. So I went to work with my hairdryer and plastic spudger and it came off after a little prying. Don't worry too much about breaking the panel, it's pretty sturdy.

Mon conseil

If you're on a budget, you don't need the suction cups, heat gun or the special T5 screwdriver. A heat gun would help, but if you have a hairdryer you can get by. A suction cup won't pick up the glass panel after just the hairdryer though, you'll need to gently pry the panel off by getting a spudger underneath the panel..
