Introduction

If you find that your steering wheel is whining when turning, or it is hard to turn while parked, it may be because your Hydroboost is worn. About 100-200$ online, or cheaper at a pick-a-part yard, this is a simple fix. Allow 1-4 hours depending on skill and tools. Usually the problem is an O ring, which is a 12$ part, but it is quite tedious to fix in the first place.

    • Open the hood, locate the brake fluid reservoir. Right under that is the Hydroboost device.

    • Use a box wrench or crescent wrench to take the two nuts off that connect the Hydroboost (against the firewall) to the brake system.

    • Inside there are four bolts. They are tight fits, but use a deep socket to take them off.

    • The white plastic sensor that connects to your brake pedal slides off after pulling the metal tab on the pedal. Use an O ring pick for best results

    • Left is old, right is new. It might be good to clean both up. It may be required to transfer bolts between the two.

    • Regarding the Hydroboost and Brake bolts, there are reverse threads. So lefty tighty, righty loosey.

    • From now on, you will want to reverse steps 1-9. This is a direct replacement, so no variables exist.

    • Replace hoses if needed, but odds are they can attach on tightly.

    • Make sure the brake sensor is on straight, and it is advised to put it together as one, not as two.

    • It may be required to attach trim pieces inside of taken off for access. Very simple, two 7/16 bolts.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
One of the critical things is to make sure the linkage to the brake pedal to the Hydroboost and the sensor are lined up correctly.
