Introduction
Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W204, 2007–2014)—Engine Air Filter Replacement. Also known as C-Class W204 models such as C250, C300, C350, and C63 AMG.
This guide shows you how to replace the engine air filter. The air filter, located in the airbox, cleans the incoming air before it reaches the engine. A clogged or torn filter can restrict airflow, reduce power and fuel economy, increase intake noise, and allow dirt to reach the mass-airflow (MAF) sensor and cylinders.
Common symptoms that suggest replacement include sluggish acceleration, poorer MPG, rougher idle, or a visibly dirty filter element
Important safety and handling notes:
- Work with the engine off and cool. Hot components can cause burns.
- Do not touch or contaminate the MAF sensor. Oils and debris can damage it.
- Brush or blow away loose debris before opening the airbox so nothing falls into the intake.
- Watch for sharp edges and brittle plastic tabs on the airbox.
- Dispose of the old paper element responsibly; most are single-use and should not be blown out and reused.

Open the driver's side door and locate the red hood-release handle on the lower dash panel, just left of the brake pedal.

Pull the handle towards you until the hood pops.

At the front of the vehicle, release the secondary latch above the grille area, and lift the hood.

Pull straight up on the engine cover to release it from the rubber grommets.

Remove the engine cover and set it aside.
-
Identify the screws shown in the second image.

Attach an E10 socket to a ratchet and remove the bolts securing the bracket along the top edge of the engine cover.

Push the locking tab on the sensor to the right until it fully extends.

Disconnect and lift the sensor off the intake hose.
-
Set it aside on the right, resting on top of the hose, and keep the tip clean.

Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the intake tube clamp until it releases.

Remove the air filter intake tube.
-
Lift the entire filter straight up out of the engine block and place it sideways in your workspace.

Loosen the three perimeter Torx T-25 screws securing the air filter lid.

Use the bottom hinge to open the engine air filter from the top, flipping it open like a book.

Position the part with the filter facing upright.

Lift the old filter straight up and out, keeping it level to prevent debris from falling into your workspace.

Ensure the male and female connectors on the new filter and the housing match.

Place the new engine air filter back into the housing.
-
Close the lid evenly and reinstall all of the lid screws (avoid overtightening plastic).

Slide the intake tube fully onto the snout and align the E-10 bolt mounts.

Reassemble the lid, clamp, hoses, and bracket. Use flat-tipped pliers to squeeze the clamp together until you hear a click indicating a secure connection.

Finally, reconnect your (MAF) sensor to the hose.

Reinstall the airbox lid, tighten the clamp, reconnect the breather hoses, and refit the engine cover. Start the engine and listen for air leaks; if you hear a whistle, reseat the lid and retighten the clamp/screws.
