2010-2017 Suzuki Swift Spark Plugs Replacement

Introduction

Replacement of the spark plugs is dependent on the type of spark plugs used, the engine model and whether unleaded or leaded gasoline is used. In the latter case, or when use is intensive in general, these values should be divided by four.

  • Standard model (iridium): every 105.000 km / 65.000 miles or 84 months
  • Standard model (nickel): every 45.000 km / 28.000 miles or 36 months
  • Sport model (iridium): every 60.000 km / 37.000 miles or 48 months

The owner's manual lists the following spark plugs as recommended replacements:

  • Denso ZXU20PR11 (iridium)
  • Denso ZXU20HPR11 (iridium)
  • Denso XU20EPRU (nickel)
  • NGK SILFR6A11 (iridium) (for sport model)

All the above plugs require a 16mm socket to turn. Depending on the quality of your spark plug socket and compatibility with the torque wrench, you might also need the 16mm deep socket to loosen or fasten it.

The process for replacement or inspection is the same. This manual can be used for both tasks.

    • Unscrew the 10mm bolts.

    • Remove the push rivet with the flathead.

    • Unclip the cable from the bracket. Use the plyers to press the lock from beneath and pull the clip loose.

    • Pull back the clasps connecting the air intake box to the rest of the intake system.

    • Grab the box at the left side and pull up and towards the right to pull the top part of air intake box out.

    • Pull the intake pipe up and out.

    • Press the connector clip and pull out the connector.

    • Unscrew the 10mm bolt holding the ignition coil in place.

    • Pull out the ignition coil.

    • Unscrew the spark plug using the spark plug socket (and ratchet extension).

    • Remove the spark plug from the engine and make sure no dirt falls into the engine.

    • Whether you are replacing or inspecting the spark plug, it is a good idea to verify that the spark plug gap is within the specified range.

    • The gap for the sport model should be between 1.0 and 1.1 mm.

    • The gap for the other models should be between 0.95 and 1.05 mm.

    • Use the feeler to check the gap, and be careful not to damage the electrode.

    • Put the spark plug back using the spark plug socket.

    • Screw the spark plug in by hand.

    • Tighten the spark plug to 25 N·m using the torque wrench.

    • Put the coil back in and bolt it on.

    • Plug the connector back in.

    • Repeat step 3-7 for each of the remaining spark plugs.
